Last Halloween, I set up a fun little Halloween slime making activity for my kids, and it was a huge hit! They’re already asking when we’re doing it again this year! So, I thought I’d share how I put everything together in case you’re looking for ideas on how to host a fun Halloween slime party for kids, or just a simple but magical way to entertain your kids around Halloween!

Potion Bottles and Spooky Supplies
I made the theme extra festive by turning our slime ingredients into “potion ingredients.” I found some cute Halloween-themed bottles at the dollar store—with spooky labels like “Bat Tequila” and “Zombie Brew”—they were perfect for bringing the Halloween magic. These bottles held some of the ingredients for our DIY slime plus some mix-ins. The girls loved pretending they were mixing up witchy potions as they added the ingredients one by one!
To give the slime that Halloween vibe, we used food coloring in purple, green, and orange. For scent, I went with doTerra’s Harvest Spice essential oil blend, which made the whole kitchen smell like autumn magic. The kids loved the way it made their slime smell like pumpkin pie.
For more Halloween fun, we had plenty of *mix-ins* to make the slime extra special. Plastic bats and mini pumpkins are very on-theme, and white Styrofoam balls give the slime a creepy texture. We added some fall-colored glitter (green plus shades of orange and brown) to really make it sparkle.
How We Made the Halloween Slime
Start with Glue: Each kiddo got a medium bowl, and we started with about 1/2 cup of white glue as the base.

Next, add Shaving Cream: Next, we added 2-3 cups of shaving cream. This gave the slime a fluffy texture, which the girls loved.

Then a Pinch of Baking Soda: A little bit of baking soda (about a teaspoon) helps the slime firm up and gives it the perfect stretch.
Magic Ingredient—Contact Solution: Finally, we added contact lens solution with boric acid (the activator) a little at a time (about a tablespoon total), stirring until the slime formed. This is when the real magic happens, and their eyes lit up as they see their gooey concoctions come to life.

Halloween Slime: Finally, it’s time to get creative! The kids added their choice of food colors, mix-ins, and glitter to customize their slime. They made “pumpkin-patch slime” with orange food coloring, glitter, and mini pumpkins, “witch’s brew slime” with green food coloring, Styrofoam “warts” and mini purple bats, and “batty purple potion” with purple food coloring and mini purple bats. You can divide your plain slime into separate bowls to make multiple versions or make another batch for another fun style.

I don’t remember the source we used for this recipe, but this one matches what we did: 4-Ingredient Fluffy Slime
A Fun Halloween Activity for Kids
By the end of the party, we had spooky slime in Halloween colors, smelling like pumpkin pie and glittering like a witch’s cauldron. The best part? The girls had so much fun making it and playing with it. This simple yet magical Halloween slime activity was one of the highlights of our holiday last year.
This DIY slime activity is great for a cozy night in with your kids or for a kids’ Halloween party with friends. It’s fun, messy (in a good way!), and full of creativity. Plus, the kids get to keep/take home their own Halloween slime creations. Trust me, the kiddos will be talking about it all year long!

How to Host A Fun Halloween Slime Party for Kids
Set up a potion station
Arrange all the bottles and mix-ins on a table so the kids can easily pick their favorites. It will look like a mini potion lab, which adds to the excitement.
Encourage Creativity
Find lots of fun Halloween slime additions and let the kids mix and match them however they want. The more unique, the better!
More Mix-In Ideas
