I’m so excited to share with you my watercolor rainbow party! It’s colorful and pretty and full of easy DIY ideas!
My daughter requested a rainbow party for her 5th birthday, but without any orange because she doesn’t like orange. Ummm, okay, challenge accepted I guess!
So I started creating decorations with a pretty watercolor rainbow and clouds without orange in them. From there I added lots of pink to replace orange, and plenty of pastel colors. We both loved the idea of adding hearts in with the rainbows, so the look is really whimsical and fun!
We had a watercolor unicorn party for her 4th birthday, so if you’re planning a unicorn and rainbow party be sure to check it out too!
Watercolor Rainbow Party Decorations
All of the party decorations I created for this watercolor rainbow party are now available as printables in my Etsy shop! You can see the whole collection here: Rainbow Party Printables
I think the biggest eye candy of this party is the paper hearts garland backdrop I made. It was easier said than done because I had serious sewing machine problems, but if you know how to use your sewing machine better than I do, it should be pretty easy!
Don’t have a cutting machine and a sewing machine? Check out these similar heart garlands available on Etsy! (Click the picture to see the listing.)
I just bought this awesome white tablecloth from Amazon for a fantastic price! It fits my 6-foot folding table like a glove; it’s honestly the tablecloth I always wish I had! No more fussing with plastic, or tablecloths that don’t sit straight and don’t cover the table legs. I’ll be using this plain white tablecloth and dressing it up for every occasion.
Speaking of staple party items I use for every party (including this one), here’s some of my favorites from Amazon!
I taped my rainbow Happy Birthday banner to the front of the tablecloth and added white balloons on either side to look like clouds.
Then I filled the table with pretty rainbow treats, cupcakes, a rainbow sprinkle cake, water bottles, favors, and two framed quote posters.
I always love adding a touch of literary, music or movie quotes where I can! I found this one by William Wordsworth (one of my favorite poets!).
And of course I had to have Somewhere Over the Rainbow, one of my favorites I used to sing as a lullaby to my babies! Aaah memories, and now my youngest baby is five :(. BUT we are celebrating another amazing year with her, so I’m very happy about that!
Rainbow Party Treats
For the party treats, I made rainbow sprinkle popcorn, white chocolate dipped marshmallows, and the sweetest of all — rainbow candy bark! See the recipes for these easy rainbow party treats here! 🙂
Rainbow Party Activities & Favors
As for the party activities, the kids painted rainbows on canvases, made rainbow bead necklaces, and popped balloons with candy inside (the lazy host’s pinata 😉 ha!).
Party favors included the painting and the bead necklace, plus a candy bracelet, a rainbow bead bracelet, and a bag of rainbow sprinkle popcorn.
Be sure to read my post Rainbow Party Activity Ideas for more activities, details, and favor ideas too!
This watercolor rainbow party makes me feel like “my heart leaps up” and my dreams “really do come true”! But more importantly, my daughter loved it!
